Our home is Located in Kalutara District, Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is also the third largest city in Western Province after Colombo and Negombo. Kalutara is a resort city. It is also the administrative capital of the Kalutara District, located approximately 40 km south of the capital Colombo 2 hours drive from the International Air Port.
Once an important spice-trading center, the city's name is derived from the Kalu Ganga River ('Black River' in native Sinhala). In the 11th Century, the town was temporarily made a capital on the orders of a South Indian Prince. The region was later planted with coconut trees, whose by-products are used for both internal and external trade. The location also boast fortifications dating back from the times when Portuguese, Dutch and British vied for control of the area.
The 38-meter long Kalutara Bridge was built at the mouth of the Kalu Ganga River and serves as a major link between the country's western and southern border. At the southern end of the bridge lies the 3 stories-high Kalutara Vihara, a Buddhist temple built in the 1960s which holds the distinction of being the only stupa in the world that is hollow.
Also a famous historic temple built in 1873 in Kalutara is the Asokaramaya Buddhist Temple situated in Kalutara north.
Kalutara has two railway stations: Kalutara North and Kalutara South. Kalutara South, however, is the one closest to the City centre of Kalutara. Kalutara south railway station is a major railway hub on the southern railway line such as Galle and Matara railway stations.

長さ38メートルのカルタラ橋は、カル・ガンガ川の河口に建設され、この地域の西部と南部をつなぐ幹線として重要な役割を果たしています。橋の南端に1960年代に建てられた三階建ての仏教寺院・カルタラ寺院があります。これは世界で唯一の中空の仏舎利塔であるという特徴をもっています。
また1873年に建てられた有名な歴史的な寺院で あるアソカラマヤ寺院はカルタラ北に位置しています。
カルタラには、カルタラ北とカルタラ南の二つの鉄道駅がありますが、街の中心に近いのはカルタラ南です。カルタラ南駅はガレ駅やマータラ駅と同様、南部鉄道路線の主要な駅です。
Kalutara Bodiya is a sacred place situated on the road from Colombo to Kalutara. Every driver stop his vehicle at this holy place, pray to ensure safe journey and start the trip again.
Built in 1896 at Palataota in a little inland, Richmond Castle is a 42-acre fruit garden estate, originally built for a wealthy regional governor. Out of around 382 recorded waterfalls in Sri Lanka, the rank of this Thudugala Ella waterfall is 268th. The fall, which has now become a famous bathing place, is situated in an estate once owned by a British and his wrecked country house can still be seen there. There is also a natural stream pool surrounded by “Ketala” plants and fern. In the nearby forest reserve, there are many beautiful migratory birds and local birds, e.g. “pale bellied flower pecker”, the smallest bird in the country.

Kalutara is famous for its sweet and juicy mangos teens. Mangos teen, a specialty of Kalutara, is a dark purple shiny fruit that was introduced to Ceylon from Malaya in the early 19th century. Mangos teen is said to be at its best in June (season June to September).
Kalutara is famous for its colorful, soft basket ware. Basket Centre is in the middle of the village, where the local weavers tame the unyielding palm fronds, turning them into purses, coasters, hats & many other items.
Aluthgama Kande Vihara, It is situated atop a hill, thus the name Kande Vihara (meaning temple on the hill). Thousands of devotees still flock to this temple, which was established in 1734, in search of mental and spiritual solace from the worries and troubles of daily life.

Kande Viharaya Samadhi Buddha Statue, Kande Viharaya is located in Aluthgama, Kaluthra district not much far away from Colombo Galle main road.

Fa Hien Cave is named after the Buddhist monk Faxian (Wade-Giles: Fa Hien). The cave is important for the Late Pleistocene human skeletal remains discovered there in the 1960s and 1980s. A toddy tapper walks on a rope as he crosses between coconut palm trees in order to collect sap to make palm wine, or toddy, as it is locally known on May 27, 2012 in Kalutara, Sri Lanka. Sri Pada is the only mountains in the world where four major religions get together and worship.
